Introducing Jaxon’s nursery

This has been a LONG time coming!  We finally are sharing with you Jaxon’s nursery!  I (Jody) have always been excited about decorating a nursery for our children, but  living in an apartment while pregnant as we awaited our home to be completed, definitely didn’t allow me to decorate our nursery before baby.  While I waited for an actual nursery to decorate, I busied myself planning and trying to figure out what I wanted. The only problem is I didn’t know where to begin.

I knew I wanted something cool and different than cars, cartoon animals or the ABCs (not that there’s anything wrong with that, but just not the direction I wanted to go in :).  After poking around online, my ideas started coming together and below you’ll see the creative process of decorating for the nursery!

I started off by scouring Pinterest after looking at a lot of nursery ideas and then I found a color palette that I liked on Design Boards.

Then, I summoned my inner designer and created a style board from things I saw that I liked!

Jaxon had his name branded by friend and designer Tracie Prichard, so I wanted to incorporate that as well!

And here is the result!!

Wall color: Worldy Gray by Sherwin Williams

White Birch Trees & Birds: Wall Decals from American Decals on Etsy

Light: IKEA

Rocker chair: Costco

Blackout curtains:  From This Little Home on Etsy (LOVE these curtains and super high quality)

Baby furniture: from the Heritage collection (color: slate) purchased at USA Baby

White lamp: IKEA

White shelves: Lowes

My sister, Jacq Washburn is a super talented creative and she painted Jaxon a memory box you see below incorporating the logo Tracie designed!

The orange dog you see in the above image is Kroegny, Jr.  My parents had a larger size dog of him when they were dating (a stuffed animal as well) and my dad proposed to my mom with a ring around his nose.  My younger sister, Kelly, made this dog for Jaxon, which has been a trend for all of the grandkids to have.

The glass bottle you see in the image below is from one of the baby showers hosted for me, and I took some twigs from our back yard and spray painted them yellow to match the nursery.  The yellow bottle of lotion you see was given to me by a sweet lady and it’s the BEST lotion, hands down (all-natural ingredients and smells heavenly).

I came across the below quote online and every time I read it, it moves me! I love it.  I hired Tracie to create the design for me and then I ordered the print mounted on gatorboard from our professional lab, Bay Photo.

The dog you see to the right of the print is my dog Floyd. I cannot even remember when I got him but I have had him for years and he even made an appearance in our wedding in the hand-made, custom tux that you see him in that my dad made for him as a surprise.  :)

I also came across the below scripture and ordered it from Mamma Moonlight on Etsy with our colors and personalized for Jaxon :)

The empty corner in Jaxon’s room was filled with a crate I bought at Walmart (yes, Walmart) and I put more books and stuffed animals Jax had received as gifts. I plan to stain it one of these days.. :)

We also have an open shelf in our closet so I put a few items, including my baby book my mom wrote in for me over the years, one of my favorite blankets from my Aunt Jody, photos of me and my sister growing up, and a few other special items :)

Great shelf placement tip: Cut off pieces of tape the length of your shelves and put on the wall where you are thinking of placing them (see below iphone image). This will save you from having to get your spouse to perform a circus feat holding multiple shelves so you can see if the layout it correct :)  I learned this from Tracie, and it has saved our marriage ;o)

Putting Jaxon’s nursery together has been SO fun and there are actually a FEW more things that I want to do, but I thought I better get this up, seeing he’s almost 9  months already!! :)  Hope you enjoyed!!  If you blogged about your nursery or a fab room in your house, PLEASE share the link below.  I seriously LOVE looking at creative ideas that people have done in their own homes :)
